It’s been five years since I (Jeremiah) was able to go to Uganda with Sovereign Wings of Hope (SWOH), but I’ve been able to serve while in the US and the impact has been incredible. Recently, I married Mie Situka, and we want to share what God is doing in our lives. Although we work as a teacher and housing coordinator, we will soon go on a three-week mission trip to Uganda to care for children, help the terminally ill, and train pastors. Before sharing more, I’d like to recount some of our experiences.
A History of Hope
Over 40 years ago, Rev. Daniel and Joy Situka, my parents, founded SWOH in Uganda, and we are excited to continue their legacy. Despite development, Uganda still needs hope: only 1 in 4 children graduate from 8th grade, nearly 60% of the 43 million people never see a health worker, and over 4 million require end-of-life care but lack access. While Islam is the fastest-growing religion in rural areas, many Ugandans feel that religions do not fully support them, especially at the end of life.
As we've learned about these needs, our involvement with SWOH has deepened. Jeremiah witnessed SWOH establish the first hospice in Eastern Uganda and provided free collegiate-level pastoral training to hundreds of rural pastors. Mie has partnered and prayed with SWOH for the past year, and this summer her many years of missionary experience will bolster our efforts. Praise God!
My Hopeful Calling
Despite all we've done, much remains to be accomplished. From June 26th to July 16th, we'll do our first mission project together, aiming to build a new classroom for grades 6-8 and develop our community clinic. At the school we will pioneer an engineering summer camp. We have two pastors' conferences planned, one at the school and another 30 miles east, to expand our hospice presence. Additionally, we will pray for hospice patients within a 200-mile radius.
Hope with Us
The total budget of the 2024 project is $12,000. Currently my team is projecting to raise 51% by July 1st. While any gift is appreciated, would you consider a one time donation $500? For those willing to pray, our prayer partners will receive frequent “on the ground” updates as we do this work.
